Apple has introduced iOS 10 with a number of interesting features including the revamped Messages, much improved Photos, Maps, redesigned Apple Music, Siri SDK and more.

The tech giant has released the iOS 10 beta for developers. Hence, you can test the latest iOS version on your iPhone or iPad if you are a member of Apple’s Developer Program. It’d indeed be interesting to try out the newest iOS ecosystem in advance. Let’s find out!

How to Install iOS 10 Beta on iPhone or iPad

Before we proceed ahead:

  • We hope you are a member of Apple’s iOS Developer program. You can enroll for the program for $99 per year.
  • Make sure to take a backup of your iOS device to iCloud or iTunes before moving ahead with the process.

Assign Your iOS Device for Development and Testing Purpose

Just in case, you have not yet assigned your iPhone for development and testing purpose, follow these steps to get it done quickly.

Step #1. First off, you need to login to your Account on Apple’s Developer website.

Step #2. Next up, you have to click on Certificates, Identifiers & Profiles.

Step #3. Click on All under Devices in the left navigational panel.

Step #4. Click on the + button at the top right corner to add your iOS device.

Step #5. Now, you have to enter the UDID of the iOS device. (It is a 40 hex character string. You will be able to find the UDID using iTunes.) Here is how to find UDID of your iDevice.

    • Connect your iPhone to your Mac or PC.
    • Launch iTunes and then click the iPhone icon which is next to the little dropdown menu in the iTunes menus and tabs area.
    • Next, you will have to click the Serial Number label; the label will change to UDID.
    • Now, you need to right click on the UDID and then click on Copy in order to copy the UDID to your clipboard.

Step #6. Up next, you have to go back to Apple’s Developer website and enter the name of the iOS Device and paste the UDID which you have copied. Click on the Continue button.

Step #7. Quickly review the details. You have to click on the Register button.

Step #8. Finally, click on Done to complete the registration process for your iPhone.

Install iOS 10 Beta Using Configuration Profile

Step #1. First off, you have to download the Configuration Profile from the Apple Developer download page.

Step #2. You have the option to download the Configuration Profile directly on your iPhone and go ahead with the installation instructions.

Step #3. Besides, you can also save the file to your hard disk on your Mac or PC and then email it to an account on your iPhone. Tap on the Configuration Profile in Mail and then go ahead with the installation instructions.

Step #4. Plug your iPhone to power and connect to the Internet with Wi-Fi.

Step #5. Tap Settings → General → Software Update.

Step #6. Tap Download and Install.

Step #7. Tap Install.

Step #8. If asked, you will have to enter your passcode.

Make Sure to Download Xcode 8 Beta

To install iOS 10 beta, you will have to download and install Xcode 8 beta from the Developer website. (The download link of the Xcode 8 beta is available on the same page as the iOS 10 beta download.) Also, make sure you have OS X 10.11.4 or later running on your Mac.

Install iOS 10 beta Using iTunes

Once you have registered your iOS device’s UDID, you have to click on the Platform link in the navigation bar at the top.

Step #1. Click on iOS, and then Download.

Step #2. Under iOS 10 beta, you will have to select your device’s model from the drop down under Restore Image. (Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes installed.)

Install iOS 10 Beta on Your iPhone and iPad

With the use of iTunes or Xcode, you can easily install iOS 10 Beta on your iOS device. But getting it done through iTunes is a preferred option. Here you are!

Step #1. To start off, you have to connect your iOS device to your Mac and launch iTunes.

Step #2. Locate the tiny little icon of iPhone next to the little drop-down menu in the iTunes menus and tabs area and click on it.

Step #3. Next up, you will have to hold down on the Option key (or the Shift key in Windows) and click the Check for Update button.

Step #4. You need to select the .ipsw file that you had downloaded previously to install iOS 10 beta and click on the Open button.

Step #5. iTunes will prompt you that it will get rid of your device and install iOS 10. Click OK to continue.

Step #6. You will see a “Slide to upgrade” slider after it reboots. Swipe on the slider to continue.

Step #7. The iOS device will reboot again, and you’ll see a “Hello” welcome screen.

Step #8. You have to swipe on the “Slide to Setup” slider and tap on Continueand then go ahead with the on-screen instructions to setup your iPhone.
